Expert advisors

Are you available to assist us with expert advice?

The Office of the Health Ombudsman may engage an expert advisor to provide advice on a health service complaint or notification.

Our advisors provide advice based on their own expertise and understanding of best practice principles, in order to determine whether the care in question is of a standard that would reasonably be expected of a provider with equivalent training or experience, at the time the care was provided.

Expert advisors must have 5 years of experience in their professional specialty. If relevant this means they must have been admitted as a Fellow to their relevant College and had 5 full years of practice in the field before engaging; or 12 years post- graduation experience if no fellowship is held.

Expert advisors are paid per hour for their time at a fee negotiated with the advisor and in accordance with Queensland Government Procurement guidelines.

Expert advice pathways

The OHO uses two different expert advice pathways to assist case officers and the Health Ombudsman.
